Foundation Science (2008)

Foundation Science is a refresher course in the basics of chemistry and physics if you have not studied those subjects recently and is particularly recommended for students with little or no formal science background, and for school leavers who wish to brush up on the basics.

New Courses

Forensic & Biomolecular Science

Graduates from the Bachelor of Science (Forensic and Biomolecular Science) have a deep theoretical understanding of biomolecular science, and an introduction to forensic science. They also have a strong up to date technical repertoire for the investigation of biomedical research problems and application to commercial applications.

Environmental Forensics

Graduates of the Bachelor of Science (Environmental Forensics) will gain skills in field and laboratory based investigation and detection of both biological and chemical environmental problems, enabling them to analyse, draw conclusions and present evidence about the nature and significance of environmental 'crimes'.

Environmental Health

The Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) will provide graduates with the skills to identify and deal with hazards from pollution and other sources, and to understand the link between a healthy environment and a healthy society. This course is designed to meet the requirements of the Australian Institute for Environmental Health.

Graduate Diploma of Micro Brewing

The Graduate Diploma in Micro Brewing course provides opportunities for those wishing to gain the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to pursue a career in the Brewing Industry, particularly in Micro Breweries. Additionally the course prepares students for sitting the Institute of Brewing and Distilling exams for the Diploma of Brewing. The course covers the science underlying brewing, materials and worts, yeasts and beer types and brewing operations and includes practical experience in a Micro Brewery and work placement within the industry.

Premier's Science Award for Tertiary teaching

In announcing the award the Premier commented on Associate Professor Adrianne Kinnear's genuine passion for teaching, her emphasis on 'hands-on' field experiences that provide a base for developing skills and concepts in biology, and her use of activities related to real-world examples that challenge our concepts of science and allow students to take the first step in learning how to generate new science knowledge.

School of Natural Science/Mindarie Regional Council Waste Management Scholarship

A $10,000 per annum Master of Science Scholarship in Waste Management Applications will be available for postgraduate research 2007 – 2009.

Postgraduate Research Scholarships

Postgraduate Research Scholarships are available for students commencing research. The Scholarships are designed to support postgraduate research students to study full-time at ECU in a Higher Degree.
